and Granddaughter of Tom and Jeanette Norton
Arrived Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 5:00pm
She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches tall



As you can tell, Ava and Grandmother Jeanette are already getting to know one another.  Mother, Dad and Grandparents are all doing well.  

We all pray for Ava to grow into the lovely young woman the Creator designed her to be.


MILAGROS CRYSTAL VELAZQUEZ
  Daughter of Angel Velazquez and Valete Garcia and Sister of Alberto Velazquez
arrived on Feb 9, 2009 at 12:59am
She weighed in at 6 pounds and 6 ounces and was 18 Inches tall.
Milagros and her parents, big brother Alberto and her Grandparents Alfonso and Teresa Velazquez are all doing fine and we all pray she will grow into the Chickasaw Maiden the Creator desires her to be.  We feel sure that her big brother (shown below with Milagros) and grandmother will have her out on the Powwow dance floor as soon as she can be brought to a Powwow




JASON ALVIN LAXTON, JR.
Son of Jaxton Christie and Little Brother of Zachary Boldt
Arrived Wednesday, Nov 5, 2008 at 8:36pm
He weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 Ounce and 20 inches long

He and his big Brother Zachary were both with us at our January 11th meeting.

All four of the Laxton Family are doing great.  Continue to pray that little Jason will grow up to be a proud Chickasaw Warrior and serve his fellow peoples in a way that is pleasing to the Creator

AARON JUSTIN SANDOVAL, JR.

Son of Aaron Justin,  Sr. and Lindsey Wenona Sandoval was born January 25th and weighed in at 7 Pounds, 7 Ounces and 19 1/2 Inches Tall.  Mother and Father and his proud Grandmother (Suzette Wenona Locke - Secretary of the CCCSTX and seen below with Aaron, Jr.) are all doing well.

We had a good representation of Chickasaws at the United San Antonio Powwow on February 14th - 15th



Fourteen Chickasaws attended the 12th Annual United San Antonio Powwow.  Some danced and others just enjoyed the spirit and fellowship of this great annual Powwow.  Top Photo shows Gene Thompson, Philip (Coyote Blue Eyes) Agnew, Betty Tolbert and her Mother, Wahnetah Louis, Tom Knight and his son, Dan Knight.  In the bottom photo is Arlie (Louis) Willis, Gene Thompson, Michelle Moody and Arlie's daughter Sarah (Willis) Rodriguez.   Others attending, but not shown were Ellen Booker and her son Michael and Teresa Velazquez and her son Alex.

COUNCIL MEMBERS AND FRIENDS PRESENTING AT THE

TSU NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE AWARENESS CONFERENCE


   Shannon Speed gave the Keytone Address and her talk was entitled "Indians are Indians - Here and There"

and Charles and Debbie Holland demonstrated Drum Making.

      

 CCCSTX Member Suzette Locke presented a talk entitled "The Only Good Indian"

and our friend, Orvie Longhorn gave a talk entitlled "Reel to Real Indians"

Phaselator Training of May 16, 2009


Josh Hinson, Stanley Smith and his wife Mary Smith (in the center of the photo) presented Phaselator and Chickasaw Language training to the langauge trainers for the Joint Chickasaw Community Councils of Central and South Texas.  Students shown are Connie Banker and her daughter Ciarra Banker  in the (foreground) and Crimson Holland and Suzette Locke are to Mary's left.  


Students Ellen Booker, Michelle Moody and Jay Hurst listen as Josh, Stanley and Mary taught us the use of the Phaselator and how it is used.
